Communication nodes connecting sensors and actuators to the internet of things (IoT) via wide-area cellular networks can be characterized as cost-optimized, energy-efficient, coverage-extended, low-throughput, and delay-tolerant. These enhanced machine-type communication (MTC) characteristics are addressed and exploited by ACP’s MtCervin series of system on chip (SoC) integrated circuits. The MtCe501 is a dual-mode IoT SoC for smart things, connecting them ubiquitously to the cloud by means of the LTE-based NB-IoT or GPRS/EC-GSM-IoT cellular access technology. MtCe501 comes as a single stock keeping unit (SKU), yet capable of 4G/2G dual mode and ready to be deployed globally in a heterogeneous or transitional cellular landscape, relying on the simple GPRS connectivity as fallback. In the NB-IoT or EC-GSM-IoT modes, the network coverage is extended by more than 20 dB to enhance the cell size or indoor reception. ACP’s MtCervin series of SoCs are designed for more than 10 years of battery life, enabled by a current of less than 3 uA in deep sleep state and an economic current consumption in connected states.
